Nevertheless, it is here that the final test of the ability of an awakened people to manage its biological resources will be staged. Mr. Haig-Brown's book is a timely pointing of the way.

As a rule, scientists are too busy seeking new horizons to see the whole view or to give the layman a hand up. Fortunately, (the author) has kept in touch with a large number of specialists in the fishery field and has the happy faculty of being able to draw together their most recent findings in such a way that they have a glow of meaning for the ordinary angler. He not only provides a valuable liaison where it is so urgently needed, between scientist and angler, but he also speaks of the art of angling as it is practiced in western North American with no little degree of authority.
